If you have an extra $35,000 laying around, you can race a Lamborghini!

Lamborghini announces new Super Trofeo series in North America.

By James Tate

So, you’re a rich amateur racing driver sitting at home, wishing you could get a ride in a series with some amazing machines where all you have to do is pay, show up and drive with full track support. Starting up your own team is a bit too labor (and cost) intensive – and besides, you really want to be piloting a top-level race car, just like people with actual talent do.
And maybe you don’t have time to be gallivanting around the country the entire year, either. Never fear, because Lamborghini has answered your wishes, putting together the five-race Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series, starting July 5th at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.

So what does it cost and what do you get for your money? For $35,000 per race weekend ($17,500 per driver for shared entries), you get a V10-powered 570-horsepower, all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo race car ready for the track.

But wait, that’s not all – you’ll have a full service package, transportation, Pirelli tires, driver race suits and what Lamborghini touts as unparalleled trackside hospitality, including parking and paddock passes. And there is quite a bit of track time in the package as well: 120 minutes of practice spread over two sessions, a 40-minute qualifying session and two 50-minute races. That’s almost four hours.
As previously mentioned, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series consists of five races. What we haven’t yet mentioned is the fact that you are sharing race weekends with Grand-Am, American Le Mans Series and IndyCar. This means that you will have actual crowds there to cheer you on (or at least that’s what you can tell yourself), or cause you to spontaneously realize why you chose the desk job in the first place. No pressure.

The five tracks you’ll be competing on are:
It’s quite a list, as each offers its own unique challenges and will certainly lead to some great racing. The icing on the cake is that the winners will head over to Italy to compete in the Super Trofeo “World Series” against winners from the sister series in Europe and Asia.

To keep the cars running tip-top all season, Lamborghini wised up and partnered with some of the top tier North American race outfits for maintenance between rounds. GMG Motorsport, Change Racing, Mitchum Motorsports, Premiere and Creighton Motorsports share the task of maintaining the vehicles, so you can rest assured that when you strap on the belts, the car is ready to perform.

If you have the means, this actually is a well-priced package. For less than the cost of a new Gallardo, you can race one for a season and not worry about track prep and other logistical nightmares that can keep you from enjoying your life between races. You need to move quickly though, as registration to join the grid is limited.
