Ford Builds One-Off 2014 Ford Mustang GT as a Tribute to the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds

To mark the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Ford has built a one-off 2014 Ford Mustang GT the design of which pays tribute to the fastest, multi-jet flight demonstration team in the world.
The car, which will be sold at a charity auction on August 1 at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has the VIN 0001 of the 2014 model year and features a unique body treatment. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the EAA Young Eagles program.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition 2014 Ford Mustang GT uses the same paint scheme of the F-16 Falcon jet, combining glossy red with white and blue. It sports a widebody kit handcrafted by TS Designs and a painted “belly pan” made by Creations n’ Chrome that emulates the F-16 Thunderbird’s appearance. The package also includes custom 22-inch Forgiato wheels.
On the inside, unique details include a modified navigation screen, instrument cluster and the removal of the rear seat bench. The front Recaro seats come with embroidered Thunderbirds elements, with additional features including unique sill plates and puddle lamps that project the aircraft silhouette when the doors open. Ford says the car’s performance is boosted “to an extraordinary level” using Ford Racing components including a supercharger and a suspension handling pack, plus Brembo brakes.
“The dedication and excellence displayed by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds are qualities we also celebrate at Ford,” said Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford board of directors. “With this year’s beautiful U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Mustang, we’ve captured the recognizable symbols of their stature and paired it with the innovation our Ford design and engineering teams build into all of our products.”
